Pre-K 4

Our Four Year Old Program is specially designed for children who are 48-60 months in age to develop and grow in each area of development. An in-depth and focused curriculum allows children to expand their cognitive, physical, social and emotional skills in preparation for kindergarten. Throughout their day, children have opportunities to make self-directed and guided choices, participate in small groups and projects.

A Typical Day in our Four Year Old Program

  • Journal Writing - The children write in a daily notebook about things being discussed in the classroom.

  • A.M. Snack - Morning snack is set up as a center activity. Children may choose to have snack at any point during the allotted time.

  • Handwriting Without Tears - Children complete developmentally appropriate activities that teach about letters, body awareness, numbers, sequencing, and sharing.

  • Outdoor time - The playground is an extension to the classroom. Teachers supervise and interact with children as they explore the playground environment and equipment. Some examples of activities you will see on during outdoor time include,  rolling a ball, riding a trike, blowing bubbles, painting with water, swinging, etc. Teachers will also lead children on walks to the park as weather permits.

  • Morning Meeting - Children participate in a teacher led group time. They will also complete activities daily, such as the calendar, the weather, and jobs, and read books related to the lesson plan's theme. The children also participate in dancing, singing, and games. This is also when the teacher introduces new concepts and ideas to the class.

  • Self selected activities - Teachers guide children in selecting what they want to play with and how. The children utilize the well developed learning centers to guide their play as teachers observe and interact to extend play and learning. The teachers read, play, and sing with the children individually or as a small group.

  • Large Group Time - Children share their Big News, Show and Share, and Star Student of the Week.

  • Lunch - The children wash their hands and eat lunch. The teachers sit with the children and encourage conversation about the day’s events, the meal itself, and other things of interest to the children. In the Four Year Old Program, the main focus of the meal is sitting together and being social at mealtimes.

  • Rest Time - Children are to rest and refresh for the afternoon activities.

  • P.M. Snack - Morning snack is set up as a center.  Children may choose to have snack at any point during the allotted time.
