Two Year Olds
W e have a Two Year Old Program
specifically for children who are 24-36 months
in age, assigned to four (4) separate classrooms
by age. Two year olds are in a stage of
transition, moving from the dependence of being
a toddler to the more independent, mobile world
of preschoolers. Our program encourages their
growing need for independence, and for children
to verbally express their feelings and emotions.
The program provides opportunities for each
child to build on their own strengths and
expanding interests through well developed
learning centers. Read more about Learning
Centers.
A Typical Day in our Two Year Old Program
-
Self selected activities
- Teachers guide children in selecting what
they want to play with and how. The children
utilize the well developed learning centers
to guide their play as teachers observe and
interact to extend play and learning. Also,
teachers read, play, and sing with the
children individually or as a small group.
-
Table top Activities
- Children can choose to participate in
table manipulatives, such as puzzles, play
dough, counting and sorting, and other age
appropriate activities.
-
A.M. Snack
- Children wash their hands and eat a light
morning snack together. They also drink from
open cups and focus on pouring and self
serving.
-
Morning Meeting -
Children participate in a teacher led group
time, and read books related to the lesson
plans theme. Children also participate in
dancing, singing, and games. This is also
when the teacher introduces new concepts and
ideas to the class.
-
Outdoor time -
The playground is an extension to the
classroom. Teachers supervise and interact
with children as they explore the playground
environment and equipment. Some examples of
activities you will see on during outdoor
time include, rolling a ball, riding a trike,
blowing bubbles, painting with water,
swinging, etc
-
Lunch
- Children wash their hands and eat
lunch. The teachers sit with the children
and encourage conversation about the day’s
events, the meal itself, and other things of
interest to the children. In the two year
old program, the main focus of the meal is
sitting together and learning to self serve
from the family style bowls.
